The Value of Video—How Much Does It Cost To Make A Video?
“How much does it cost?” This is perhaps the most often asked question we hear. And it seems totally reasonable to us for someone to ask that up front.
Our standard response is, “how much does an automobile cost?” Which is met at first with a puzzled expression and then a look of understanding that it isn’t just as simple as A-B-C.
The factors that go into developing a budget are unlimited. Certain things are pre-set…cost of a ½ day production filming session, but how many of those ½ days will you need? Editing is calculated at an hourly rate, and you can estimate that 1 hr. of footage will turn into four to six hours of editing. How many cameras will you want, one, two, or even three? Each half day rate is per camera, so again, go back to the first question and tell me how many half days we need to plan to film. Endless gigantic spiral, soon stretching past Jupiter.
We always want to submit an accurate budget for the project you’ve visualized. If you aren’t familiar with how videos are made and what adds to the budget, your ideas may carry sticker shock. At this point, we usually ask what budget you want to stay under. Then we show you how you can get the same results for a lot less.No matter the size of the project, budget seems to be something everyone is interested in keeping in line.
